Art Nouveau Pate Sur Pate Vase c.1880
Beautiful miniature sized continental, (in all probability French) pate-sur-pate vase.

Decorated on a dark green ground with a naked maiden rising up from within a wave and encircled with a typically Art Nouveau gilded leaf design.

Pate-sur-pate (actually paste on paste) is achieved by the application of thin layers of white slip onto the porcelain background body of the vase until the desired design is achieved. It is a delicate and expensive process, perfected in France by Marc-Louis Solon at Sevres and that was used by by him when he moved to England to work at Minton. Also used by other prominent English porcelain manufacturers in the 19th Century. Quality pieces are considered rare and bring a premium price when available.

In excellent condition, general age related crazing. Minor wear to the rim gilt. There have been no repairs. This piece has been very well looked after. The colours are stunning.

Fully marked to the base with a white VI and an impressed VI over D6 and the number 3054.

Measures approx:

9cm tall. 3 1/2".

A lovely vase, very rare piece also very decorative indeed.

Rare K.P.M. Berlin Lithophane c.1836-7
A rare 19th century K.P.M. lithophane made from biscuit porcelain dating to 1836-7.

Of excellent quality, looking almost 3D when lit from behind.

Inside a coloured etched glass frame, althought the bottom ruby panel has been broken and re-glued. The lithophane is also loosly fitting, I suspect it would be easy to remedy by altering the lead fixing mounts.

The lithophane itself is in very good condition, with no cracks or repairs.

Impressed with the sceptre over K.P.M., the run number 183 and letter B to the back lower right.

Measures approx:

Lithophane: 12.5cm x 14.5cm. 5" x 5 3/4"

Frame: 18.5cm x 20.5cm. 7 1/4" x 8"

Rare and very collectable piece.

19th century Paris Samson Sevres Style Plate -Signed Gaultiers
Beautiful Sevres style cabinet plate, hand painted and signed Gaultiers. With the letter mark BB inside the interlinking L's dating it to 1879, if indeed a true Sevres plate. I think though that the gilding is too flat to be Sevres. More likely to be from one of the other Parisian factories most likely Samson.

Hand painted panels of flowers with gilt borders on a bleu de Roi ground between. The central scene of a Lady named to the base as the Comtesse Dubarry.

Marked to the base as you see in the photo with an painted blue interlocking L mark and a date letter BB, along with a letter S underneath.

There are no cracks or hairlines. No restoration. There is absolute minor to the gilding.

The centre panel is excellent, with no wear.

Measures approx:

22.5cm in diam. 8 3/4".

A very pretty and highly collectable piece.
